Mixed feelings regarding Plato’s Closet in Newmarket. I often find good items to purchase, but when I bring in items to sell, they are often rejected for invalid reasons. I question how much they actually buy from walk-in sellers. Attempted to sell three pairs of shoes and was told no because of wear and stains. Have they looked at what was on the shelf?!
My two teens loved an afternoon of going crazy in here upping their wardrobes for fall. For these prices I let them get anything they want. We'll, okay, maybe not crop tops or teeny shorts but lots of other stuff is okay by me, and dazzles their own sense of fashion. For those selling, yah maybe they are picky sometimes but as a buyer, I'm very grateful they curate for today's teen fashions 'cuz I don't have much of a clue. Keep it up.
This used to be my favourite thrift shop around! The clothes and prices are still decent, however I find the staff are always rude and unfriendly. It’s a very cold vibe and when you sell to them, I get the feeling that I’m wasting their time and they really don’t want me to be there. On one occasion I went in with my baby in his stroller and, it’s a tight squeeze in the aisles, the staff member gave me a dirty look and I was left to back up and go around in another aisle. And the last few times of selling, it’s just been a quick no. I know this store is connected to the Once Upon a Child franchise, which is the polar opposite experience. It’s very strange! Honestly now, I would rather donate and shop at Goodwill Boutique and Abuse Hurts and Salvation Army - very friendly staff and bonus, all really great causes!
Just a quick add on:
These experiences have been for the past year, not just recently. The stroller incident happened on a Tuesday in February and we were the only people in the store. We are all human and we are all overwhelmed, so we do understand! We’ve just been super bummed to be treated rudely a bunch of times after being buying and selling customers for years. Hopefully management can help their staff out to be less overwhelmed and more psyched! It’s all good, it led to finding new places with awesome causes. Thanks for replying Plato’s and wish you the best!
Staff is friendly and efficient. Unfortunately they give you pennies on the dollar for your clothes so don’t bother wasting your time washing and pressing your clothing, pass them on to friends/family or donate to your favourite charity.
Not feeling good about how they treated me some of the staff giving me attetude like you are there to buy dont act towards people with bad attetude and give them bad feeling, I feel judged every item they dont buy even if you feel its good and can sell they dont treat all the same it seems like atleast in my case, atleast gie a good reason why you are not buying saying the same thing all the time ohh its too old its not this that when clearly good item to sell you just dont want to buy it becasue you dont give a damn and dont need it as much trash
I went in with a few of baskets of items, they bought about one bin of stuff and gave me 42 bucks. Fair considering it was all going to be be donated anyway. Sometimes they barely buy anything in my basket, depends on what they want that …
kind and friendly staff, and i found the store to be quite clean upon my visit. the selection was okay, yet they wouldn’t accept my clothing at the counter although they were all gently used and in style. 2 stars bc please please lubricate …
Store capacity of 15 people. They also have good quality hand sanitizer. Good selection of clothing. Mens section is in the corner, not as much selection for it.
